The East Coast Pedalers section of the NACC
Ltd is now into its third year. Our section mainly covers Suffolk and Norfolk
and we have about the same number of members in both counties, we hold events
throughout both counties during the year, most of our events are held in
conjunction with local events such as Village Fun Days, Bygone Rallies and
Vintage Fairs etc, these events are usually held to raise funds for worthy
causes and we are always glad to display our machines to aid the good causes.
We normally incorporate a road run of about 25 to 30 miles within these events
and we ALWAYS stop at a local public house for a good lunch, we have been to so
many good eating houses that we are thinking of publishing our own "East Coast
Pedaler good Pub Grub guide....
The events that we chose to
attend are always very family friendly and there is always something
interesting to see or do for wives and children whilst we are out and about on
our road runs, although having said that we have many female members who
venture out on their own machines to join in the fun. Our members own a vast
range of club eligible machines ranging from 1950s Cycle attachments such as
Mini Motors, Cyclemasters etc, through 1960s mopeds such as Mobylettes,
Raleighs and Early Honda models, 1970s mopeds including several Sports mopeds
of which Yamaha FS1E, Honda SS50 and Puch Grand Prixs are classic examples.
right up to 1980s style pedal less mopeds such as Yamaha QT50, Honda C50L and
Suzuki FZ50. There are also many sub
100cc Autocycles and micro motorcycles owned by members of our section. Many of
these machines have been expertly restored, some our ridden as found and some -
it has to be said - look as if they should be put back in the skip where they
were dragged from ... However all are
ridden and very few are brought just to be shown in our displays.
Our first event this year is our Valentines Day Run starting from the
stately grounds of Framlingham College, we take a nice scenic route to the
famous Blaxhall Ship where we have a lunch stop, then we return by another
picturesque route back to the college, this event is famous for Debbie's home
cooking which is on offer before and after the run.
Our next
scheduled event (although we are hopeful that we might have another planned for
May) is our camping weekend at Breck Farm, Nr Weybourne, Norfolk on June 5th -
6th, here we have a run on both days plus a campfire and usually a bit of
merriment and frivolity on the Saturday night, hopefully the weather will be
kinder to us than last year but whatever the elements throw at us we will have
a Fun weekend.
Moving onto June we have the "Waldringfield" Wander on
the 27th of the month, a gentle ride around the Sudbury area starting from
Great Waldringfield Village Hall.
In July we hope to have a new
venue, this should be on July 11th but we are still awaiting final details.
THEN in August we have something completely different .... several
Pedaler members are riding from Ness Point (the most Easterly point in England)
to St.Davids Head (the most Westerley point in Wales) this epic -foolhardy?-
trip consists of five days hard riding on 35 year old mopeds from August 9th to
August 13th... will they make it ? you will have to keep an eye on the daily
blog updates on the website to find out unless you want to join us of course
.....
Also in August we have the Harleston Fun Day and Road Run on Bank
Holiday Monday, this is a really good day out, loads to do and see - one of our
lady members got volunteered into the Line Dancing display last year ! - always
a great reception from the public for our display.
A week later on
September 5th we return to Norfolk for the Norfolk Gala Day, held on the Royal
Norfolk Showground there is so much to do at this one that we have to forgo a
road run; we have to take it turns to man our stand as we have so many members
of the public enquiring about our machines and we like to look around the other
exhibits on show,
In October we make an annual
trip to Leiston Long Shop Museum on the 24th to join in with their Final Fling
day, lots of lovely Steam Engines to look at (and ride on) together with
another superb road run - a great way to shake off the Winter Blues.
Our year ends with the Not the Hangover Run on December 27th,
starting and finishing at The Ringland Swan in Norfolk, usually a nice if cold
winter run and the roaring log fire back at the Swan is always very welcoming
as is the fine festive food served there. There will probably be even more
events added later; we are hopeful of holding an event in the Kings Lynn area
sometime this year for example. All events will be listed on the main Website
Calendar pages. For a further insight into our events tale a look at the Recent
Runs pages where you will see reports of all our 2009 displays and road runs.
