A Very Short Police man  Norfolk Constabulary Gala Day held at the Royal Norfolk Showground  A Very Short Police man going the other way
The East Coast Pedalers continued the long involvement of the NACC with the Norwich Police Gala Day held at the Royal Norfolk Showground on August 31st.

A wide range of Cyclemotors, Autocycles, Mopeds, Sports Mopeds and a Corgi kept the Public Interested throughout the day. We are thinking of employing a 'Minder' for our TV, Radio & Media star Terry Keable as he was constantly being congratulated by the Public for his End to End achievment, he did find time to go off and get an Ice Cream however.

Dave Watson looks like adding even more machines to his collection having been contacted by members of the public to collect unwanted machines - 5 at the last count. We had several local NACC members pop in for a visit - and a cup of tea.

Many thanks to Terry, Dave, Roly, Brian Lilly and Debbie for taking time to look after the stand while others went off to look around the other exhibits.

All in all another great day for the East Coast Pedalers Roadshow !

Lots of Interest in Roly's SS50. Our machines dwarfed by one of the many Trucks at the events (Pity their horns weren't as ineffective as ours !

East Coast Pedalers Harleston Event
The recent Harleston Fun Day Display and Road Run on 25 August 2008 ( Bank Holiday Monday) held on behalf of the NACC and East Coast Pedalers was very well supported with the membership exhibiting eighteen machines in the display line up at this venue.

A first for an NACC event at this venue in Norfolk we were blessed with good weather and an excellent turnout of members with a total 18 machines featured in the line-up on the club stand.

Also notable amongst this display was Terry Keable's Land's End to John O'Groats Raleigh Runabout complete with its own information boards and of course the proud owner as well. If that was not enough we also had the draw later in the day for the 1981 Motebecane 7 Special Moped (taxed & mot'd) that had been donated by fellow member Michael Ottignon with proceeds from the draw tickets going to charity. This moped was also on display here and won by member Brian 'Mick' Ritchie.

The run out began at around midday and was supported by eleven machines and riders and involved a leisurely seventeen mile run out from Harleston. Our destination was the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton and this really is an ideal venue as they have both a pub and tea shop on site and if you like aviation as well it really is on the must see list. The staff were very enthusiastic about us dropping by and kindly arranged for us to park our machines by one of the many static aircraft that are on site here.

Our thanks go to them for their help in setting up this stopover. All too soon the stop at Flixton was over and we returned to Harleston by a shorter but more direct route of six miles to continue and enjoy the rest of the time available at the Fun Day. We had lots of enquiries about the NACC and our machines of course from a very interested and admiring public.

Many thanks to all those who supported this event and of course to Carl for making the day run smoothly and making it look so easy!

SOUTH WEST LINCOLNSHIRE SECTION RUN JULY 20th 2008
The South West Lincolnshire has now been in existence for about a year. We have now had four runs and attendance has risen from two (the two founders, me and Vince) to ten riders plus family and friends on this July outing. As usual we met at Vince and Mel's house in Colsterworth for tea and biscuits before leaving in a haze of blue smoke at 11.00am. Vince's route took us through the Vale of Belvoir to our lunchtime destination at the "Dirty Duck" pub on the bank of the Grantham Canal (or "the cut" as I was reminded it should be called) where the bikes attracted the attention of some of the customers. All riders completed the journey with no mishaps or breakdowns and the rain held off for us.

Thanks to all those who attended some from a fair distance away.
Our next run will be on September 14th 2008 and all are welcome.

The riders were David McKenny (Puch M50 GP), Roger Simpson (NSU Quickly F), Brian Brimson (New Hudson), Les Gobbett (Honda PF50), Mark Astill (Raleigh RM8), Alan Sharp (Aprilia Sonic), John Green (Honda 90 a gold one), Vince Shreeve (Raleigh RM8), Peter Lawson (Puch MS50), Mike Green (Raleigh Runabout).

July 20th The Devon Section Powderam Club Stand
Every one was looking forward to a long busy weekend talking bikes with the the public and club members also catching up with old and new members. Sadly due to the weather which was the worst seen at Powderam for many years the show ended up being cancelled on the Sunday morning. But we did manage to have a great time in setting up and with a little sunshine we had short time with the public on the Saturday morning.

Full report will be in buzzing. Roy

July 20th The Pennine Challenge
The start of The Pennine Challenge Run from the Turnpike Inn.

Someone asked at the start `Why is it called the Pennine Challenge?", silly lad. He soon found out as we pedalled over Saddleworth Moor in the teeth of a gale.

East Coast Pedalers 'do' The Hacheston Vehicle and Bygone Rally
Sunday June 29th saw the second official event held by the East Coast Pedalers section. This comprised a static display at the Hacheston Bygones Rally where we had 18 machines on display ranging from the cyclemotors of David Whatling and Keith Rutlidge to the Sports Mopeds of Debbie Doy and Roland Scarce. We outnumbered the bigger classic bikes on display threefold and more people took interest in our 'tiddlers' than the various Triumphs, Matchlesses and Harleys on show. We also had a road run to Rendham White Horse where we enjoyed delicious Steak sandwiches and chips, and we called in at the Parham Air Museum on the return leg. A great time was had by all and we hope to repeat the event next year.

The 2008 Coast to Coast
Awaiting the story (no change there then) but here are the first pictures of this years run. Some more pictures are expected soon but in the meantime I have tried to make the limited selection as exciting as possible.

The 2008 C2C2C Run
For some groups the Coast to Coast is not really enough of a challenge, so why not do it both ways like this lot?

The group consisted of Garelli, Gerosa, Motobi, Mobylette, Puch, NSU Quickly. Being foolhardy first-timers we had elected to ride back again on the Monday. Some clown had the bright idea of booking the youth hostel at the top of Honister Pass on the Sunday night. Just for reference, most mopeds struggle on 25% gradients - when its also torrential rain, a howling gale and 2 inches of water pouring down the road it gets interesting and energetic.

Anyway we did it and felt duly pleased with ourselves.

Our next trip out is planned for 16/17 August - a ride down the Tweed Valley from Biggar to Berwick-on-Tweed. Overnight in Berwick then back to Biggar on Sunday. There's still time to join us.....

Thames Valley Group 10th Odiham Run held on June 21 2008

Just in, pictures from the Thames Valley Group this weekend. There are a great many pictures but unfortunately the write up on the run is 'to follow'

For the time being please feel free to just make up your own story.

SOUTH WEST LINCOLNSHIRE SECTION MAY RUN

Eight riders (and most unusually one pillion passenger) and friends assembled in Colsterworth for tea and biscuits before the start of the first South West Lincolnshire Section Run on May 18th 2008..

An almost uneventful run to Wymondham Mill for lunch where John Green's wife decided that although you meet the nicest people on a Honda, she was opting for the comfort of a Fiat Doblo for the return journey.

East Coast Pedalers go Nautical May 7th. 2008
A good crowd of us met up at Aldeburgh life boat station where we were given a grand indepth tour of the station. We were even allowed in the cockpit of the vessel (which is not normally done on tours) where other members of our group were horrified when I took the seat behind the controls.
After the tour several of us had a quick blast to Thorpeness and back, followed for a quick pint for a few and a very dodgy kebab for me.
Many thanks to Terry for organising a very interesting evening, and good luck in his end to end run of which Aldeburgh life boat is one of the charities benefiting from his sponsors.

The Sad Ol Gits Tadcaster Run April 2008
This was the first run out for T'UNDERBIRD 3 which is the new Ol Gits Mobile High Speed Emergency Cardiac Support Vehicle (see below behind the Raleigh-Run-About-Trying -To-Start-The Sodding-Thing). I am pleased to say it was not needed on the run - which is just as well as it was left for ten minutes unattended in Tadcaster and someone had the wheels off and away.
A number of Ol Gits turned up, one even brought a camera, hence the pictures. Unfortunately none of them wrote anything to accompany the article so please feel free to make up your own story line.

To help you with this please consider the following:

1. Tadcaster
2. Raining
3. Ol Gits
4. Public House

Please Note: Mr Frank Kilmore's entry was refused this year following his performance at the last event where his cheerful disposition effectively ruined the day for a number of the sub-sections regular riders.

South Staffs “Fruit Cake Frolic”… 2nd March 2008

Fruitcakes R Us

This time of year, one never knows what to expect on any organised outing, however, the known finale to this run was Liz’s scrumptious fruit cakes…full marks for a well-maintained tradition!

The day was lovely, though the wind was quite strong and gusty, but with blue skies, nicely greening Shropshire hedges and a splendidly varied route, a little extra care over bridges was a small price to pay.

A grand turn out, with a host of varied machines and riders to match, was led round the course by Bob Terry on Ian Chisholm’s “spare” Puch, and almost everything went like clockwork, tho’ one machine decided not to cooperate after a few hundred yards, and a silly spark plug on another m/c caused a few hiccups---BUT the cake was delicious!
Thanks to Bob Terry and Liz for a cracking route, with some stunning views, even if the council had decided to close one road the day before the event!

Thanks , also to the intrepid back-up teams, as always, for their unstinting support…..a great start to the season!

Roly's 50th Birthday Rideout.

Twenty eight riders gathered at the majestic Framlingham College on February 10th, 2008; to celebrate Roly Scarce's upcoming 50th Birthday with a 28 mile road run including a lunch stop at Blaxhall Ship.

A good time was had by all and members came from as far away as Yorkshire and Kent to attend. See the calendar for future events, and read a full report of Roly's 50th Birthday Rideout in the April issue of Buzzing.

In the meantime here are some pictures to be going on with.

Note from Dolly, I have been asked to point out that the naming of this new section "Recent Runs" is not in any way meant as a derogatory reference to the catering services at this event which were truly spendid and thankfully did not involve the notorious Dodgy Delliport's Tuk-Tuk Mass Food Poisoning / Catering Services in any capacity whatsoever.
