| East
Coast Pedalers Leiston Final Fling Report October 24th |
F irstly apologies for the lateness in getting this report on the
website (it's not Dolly's fault honestly !) but once again we have moved house
twice this year (so far !) and what with removal operations and the delay in
getting the Broadband connected Moped business has had to ride Pillion for a
while. But I did get time to attend an excellent day at the Final Fling at the
Leiston Long Shop Museum on October 24th once again superbly organised by Mark
Gibb and his family.
Many members rode
into the event including three (fool) hardy riders from Clacton, Dave Watson
had added to his collection by collecting machines from nearby Kelsale on his
way down, two Mini Motors and a Power Pack were soon fighting for space in his
van alongside his New Hudson.
A lovely run out to
the lunch stop at Friston Chequers taking in the coastal resorts of Thorpeness
and Aldeburgh was enjoyed by all as was the fine meal at the pub.
Dave (I love Hondas) Watson couldn't persuade his New Hudson to
join in so jumped on Mark's spare PC50 for the run. A short run back to base to
view the many exhibits on display and all to soon it was time to head for home
in the hope of dodging the rain showers. Once again Mark Gibb together with
help from his family organised another great day at Leiston Long Shop Museum to
help the curators of the Museum celebrate the end of another successful year .
Despite the inclement weather there was yet another fantastic of
machines and riders, so much so that we filled up our allocated display area
and had to have some machines on display further away. Most of the members had
ridden their bikes to the event and special mention must be made of three
riders who rode all the way in from Clacton on Sea - a distance of nearly 50
miles - so well done to Clacton Stalwarts Richard Layton, John Gates and Carl
Elbey we hope you had a safe (and Dry) ride home...
Mark
had planned another new route for the road run, as we set off from the Museum
Dave Watson couldn't get his New Hudson to fire, he did his usual trick of
dissappearing down a (Downhill) side road in an effort to get it started, as
usual he wasn't noticed ; fortunately Terry Keable realised and set off back to
find him; and as Terry knew the route he was able to guide Dave round the route
after he had headed back and grabbed Mark's spare Honda PC50.
We
all enjoyed a lovely ride along the coast through Thorpeness and then onto to
Aldeburgh - past the infamous "Scallop" sculpture ! the many walkers were
highly amused by the group of middle aged bikers on their mopeds.
All too soon we were at Friston Chequers where the food was served
up amazingly quickly, so much so that Dick was already tucking into to his
Sunday lunch before most of us had entered the pub. Needless to say yet another
fine meal and enjoyable pint were devoured and we were soon heading back to the
Long Shop to view the many exhibits including Dave Watsons vanload among which
there were two Mini Motors and a Power Pack that he collected on the way - we
don't know how he does it, he snapped these up for a derisory price right under
the noses of us Suffolk members ! to say we were envious was an understatement
!!!
The looming rainclouds meant that the members who
had ridden to the event were understandably keen to head back but the members
who had vanned or trailered their machines upheld NACC honour and hung on until
to the end of the day.
Our grateful thanks
to Mark and his helpers for a great day, Mark feels that we may have "outgrown"
this event at least in this format so may have something different lined up for
next year, but he is not letting on what he has in mind just yet !!

| North Wilts section Autumn run from the Red Bull Inn
Malmesbury October 17th 2010. |
Our last run with a good turnout of 10 people and 9
bikes. A pillion rider for the first time! Very special thanks to Clive and
Anne who called to join us on their way to Mid Wales for a holiday. Two non
members ,I hope you both join soon and we see you again. One of the unusual
bikes was a 1985 Honda H100 with 62000 miles on the clock, not bad for a small
2 stroke. David Benns Norman was able to overtake everyone, it is not often we
see these. No breakdowns I am pleased to say.
Riders were as follows:- Dennis

Headcorn Airfield Run 2010 |
A less than encouraging weather forecast did little to
deter the regulars and some new faces at this year's Headcorn run. Four campers
of various shapes and sizes were on site when I arrived on the Saturday and we
were joined by a steady stream of day visitors and overnighters throughout the
day. The wind made life interesting for the parachutists and the light aircraft
taking off and landing seemed to be enjoying the challenge, too. Hot air
ballooning was a casualty of the weather, though, a pity as the sight of them
never fails to draw a crowd. Another casualty was
Durham John's Puch Maxi which broke a newly-fitted freewheel and his Batavus
which seemed to be in need of a replacement condenser. Field engineering
involving car parts and tape got it going satisfactorily again.
I parked the Mitsubago camper with the pop top
facing the wind and prepared the Poirier for the short run to Jean Hammond's
micro car collection at Hawkenbury. I thought I ought to keep the Saturday run
short - after all, you never know when someone's going to turn up with an Ariel
Three! Jean was happy to allow us free rein in the Bubble Shed and asks me to
pass on her thanks for the generosity of the visitors towards the upkeep of the
museum. Following a gentle wander up Headcorn
high street it was back to the airfield for supper, drinks and a showing of the
DVD of last year's event in the mobile canteen of the Gill Brothers which had
been converted into a cinema for the evening. A pint in the Wings Bar was
washed down with the speciality of the Gill canteen, a strong Irish coffee. Few
of us had trouble sleeping that night despite the wind tearing across the open
airfield. Sunday morning brought more riders out
to defy the elements for a ride through the Kentish countryside to The Chequers
at Goudhurst where the host made us very welcome in his very pleasantly
refurbished pub. Continuing on a bit of A road to Cranbrook, we were given a
fascinating tour of the Union Mill, one of the last operational windmills in
the area and run towards the end of its' life by a co-operative of creditors
when the last sole owner and miller found that he couldn't make ends meet. The
Mill still grinds corn for sale in the on-site shop but has scaled down milling
as this is now the end of the visitor season. The guide made full use of Blake
Yeomans who was set to gainful employment in the demonstrations of milling
practices of years gone by. The heavens opened as
we left Cranbrook for the homeward leg but our spirits were less dampened than
our clothing. The rain got in through my storm suit, leaving a very
embarrassing patch down my leg - it's where the water seeps in through the zip,
honestly - and sitting in a puddle of what I hope was more rain, although it's
difficult to tell at my age. A brief prize-giving
ended the day with Durham John picking up the award for the furthest travelled
and for not bringing an Ariel Three, a cup to the Brothers Gill for their
regular attendance and consistent provision of apple pie and Irish coffee,
Hero of the Day was Steve Watkin who rode down
from Bromley on his AV89 with all his gear and faced a very wet trip home - all
on a bike that I'd sold him - and medals went to Blake, the youngest
participant on the pillion of his Dad's nicely turned-out Lambretta and to
Chris Mercer who struggled with poor starting on his Solex - one of several to
join us this year - but made it back to base.

| North Wilts run from The Prince of Wales
Wootton Bassett - 26th September 2010 |
A very cold day which I think must have put some people
off. A new route from Dennis & Jenny of 38 miles which we cut short by 5
miles due to the cold. At 10.30 am we thought we would have to call it off as
only Dennis was there, and then Rod Western turned up with his lovely Puch
Monza. A few minutes later John Ewart arrived with Mr Stanford ( a new rider to
us ) and this was enough to say lets go! Mr Stanford had just acquired a lovely
Peugeot Vogue in stunning white which is spite of being 19 years old looked
like new! A bit of a mystery here as the log book says it is a Fiat, can anyone
tell us why please?
Riders were as follows:-

Norfolk Gala Day 2010 |
A bright summers day welcomed us to the Royal Norfolk
Showground for our annual visit to the Norfolk Gala Day. Barrie Brasted had kindly taken over the organisation of the East
Coast Pedalers stand at this prestigious event and he did a grand job including
negotiating for a much larger display area; the pitch originally allocated
would have been far too small - we had 26 machines on display ! Barrie had also
marked out the display area and also organised the parking for our vehicles.
With this being a purely static event there were a great many previously unseen
machines owned by NACC members; including Trevor Seymour's Gericke SP50S - a
make unheard of by the rest of the Pedalers. Barry Lewis brought along two
unrestored Raleighs which will no doubt be fully refurbished to the same
standard as his Mobylette V50 - a machine previously owned by his late father -
which was also on display. Raleighs were even more popular than Honda PC50s
with other examples being exhibitted by Janet Brasted, Barry Brasted &
Harvey Spencer.
To
add a more modern theme we had four 1970s Sports Mopeds on show, Tony Chapman
had brought along his immaculate Yamahas SS50 and FS1EDX all the way up from
Essex, Debs had her FS1-E and Carl had his Puch Grand Prix on show which were
interesting the 40 somethings amongst the public. Further variety was provided
by Barrie's three wheeled Honda Stream and Cyclemaster, Rod Fryatt's folding Di
Blasis - one complete and one without an engine ! - , Peter Barwell's off road
Motobecane SP44TT, Dave Watson's New Hudson Autocycle and Berini. As well as
our bikes there were many others on display and loads of other attractions
including a Moto X Display Team, Classic Cars, Trucks and Buses, Autojumble,
Craft Stalls, Live Music so there was plenty for the Pedaler members to see and
do when it wasn't there turn to man the NACC stand.
Another resounding success for the
Pedalers section, special thanks to Barrie and Janet for all their efforts in
organising the day for us and to Tony for spending so much time speaking to the
public on our behalf whilst the rest of us went "walkabout " !

Pedalers at Norfolk Market Town's Annual Funday |
August Bank Holiday Monday saw the Pedalers once again
set up their stall at the Harleston Recreation Ground for the Norfolk Market
Town's Annual Funday.
A nice lie in as it was
a local event for most, but even so there were several Pedalers there when I
arrived on Debbies Yamaha FS1-E ( no use of the "works van" this weekend so we
was restricted as to how many machines we could bring, I had planned to bring
the "Scary Sidecar" that had recently completed the Side to Side Run but "Her
indoors" expressed an interest in not only having her bike on display but also
doing the Road Run, so we compromised and she followed along in the car with
the "Track Spare" Novio on the Bike Rack, so that we would both have a machine
to ride on what is always a good road run.
Terry was already there and having
lined up his Camino Sport was sussing out where the best Ice Creams would be !
;the organiser of the Nedging Bi-annual event -Marshall Gooderham- had brought
along two very nice machines; an ex GPO Bsa Bantam and a superb James, Dick was
there with his Yamaha T80 Townmate, Colin soon added his recently completed Sun
to the line up, Kent Visitors Clive and Ann signed up for a temporary Day
membership and added their very interesting Piaggio MP3 three-wheeler to the
line of ever increasing machines - I bet Dave didn't refer to that as "Scary" !
Rod rode in from
Oulton Broad on his Mobylette, Roly brought his PC50 on his bike rack, Dave
brought along his usual van-load this time it carried a New Hudson, a Moby
similiar to Rod's and his Side to Side PC50. MIck had switched allegiance from
his Normal to what was to be the only Puch there that day. Two well engineered
Trikes - one VW powered the other a Kawasaki Z1300 engined machine - joined our
line-up, the riders were very scarily dressed so we didn't object ! but they
turned out to be very friendly and even let Terry have a sit on one of their
machines.
All too
soon it was time to set off on the Road Run that Mick "Soapy" Sudds had
organised, not wishing to rest on his laurels he had planned yet another route
this time to Stradbroke White Hart where we had hoped to meet Amanda Donahue as
she is rumoured to have a home nearby and sometimes frequents the local pubs,
it was a bit cold so we doubted whether she would be in her Castaway costume
but we could dream anyway !!! A very pleasant run followed, we had packed loads
of tools as Dave chose to ride his New Hudson, but to his credit it performed
very well, he was so pleased that he parked in the middle of the dining area so
that we could all marvel at his mechanical abilities !
A very tasty lunch was enjoyed by
all, Rod spotted a Walnut Tree and had hoped to fill his pockets but the fruits
of the tree were not quite ready for picking just yet - expect to see him
return in a few weeks time ! We then returned to base camp where the sun had
brought out many members of the public who were looking at the remaining
machines on display, once we had returned our machines to the line up they had
much more to interest them and as usual there were a lot of people of a
"certain age " drooling over Deb's Fizzy ( wish I hadn't brought it now !).
There was lots to see and do, we were treated to a line dancing display, a fine
young Rock Band, lots of stalls to get a bargain or two, and we were treated to
an excellent flypast by the Red Arrows - far to quick to catch on Camera - and
a WW2 prop driven aeroplane.
All in all a fantastic day and our big thanks go to Soapy for
organising everything for us, and to Marshall and Colin for looking after the
stand whilst we were out on the Road Run. Only a few days now to the next event
on September 5th at the Norfolk Gala Day at the Royal Norfolk Showground -- see
you there ?

| The route was from the Royal Oak pub at Long Bennington

Unfortunately the Bubble car museum has relocated. Initially we were told it
had gone to Scotland, but later this was amended to "near Boston" (the one in

DEVON SECTION POWDERHAM CLUB STAND & CHIP SHOP RUN.
10TH 11TH JULY 2010
|
Record entries for the club stand for
many years with 17 members and families booked in, including some coming down
from Wales for the weekend, also for years "lots of sunshine". We had 31 bikes
booked in with 27 bikes on display with a good range of machines from a
Sinclair Zeta to an Excelsior Consort.
It all started Thursday
evening with our team of grass cutters and us arriving just as they were
finishing the hard work, not that I was going to do anything anyway (down to
one crutch now and just starting to walk again). Not sure that John Glanvill
and Steve should be racing lawnmowers though, thank you to Steve, John Rowe
& (son) Justin, John Glanvill, Theresa and James for all the help. This in
itself was a good evening with our now security team lighting there barbeque
later that night with me & Theresa staying late into the evening eating
their food.
Friday saw us arriving late again as normal lately with many
people waiting for us as we had all the club props etc for the stand; they soon
had the van cleared and happily setting things up (me pointing with my crutch
to where things were to go). I did leave the roof of our gazebo home though,
leaving some to go back again to look for it. Time soon arrived for our chip
shop run on the bikes with John G, John R, Steve, James and me with Justin on
his push bike joining us for part of the ride. I was sort of able to ride my
Novio by now, with help in the initial starting of the bike but not sure how I
would get on especially on the dirt track out of the showground. John R now
with his Trotter running well but not previously getting past the 4mile marker,
done well in completing the route after the work put into the bike. We normally
have some of our riders that go there own way and this ride proved the norm
with John G & Steve taking the return route on the way out, meeting up at
Dawlish for the photo call. With the chip shop coming into view at Starcross we
parked up and piled into the chip shop for our now famous fish and chip supper.
We had not much problems with bikes but John G was having a lot of trouble with
starting his Runabout, but after starting it again there and us shooting off he
had stalled and couldn't restart the bike. Sadly John was unknowingly left
behind and pedalled his bike back, sorry about this John it shouldn't have
happened, next year we will see if anyone will do a back up trailer.
Saturday and Sunday the display was put on and again many
offered there help in sorting out the displays for the weekend, sun still
shining. The show needed this good weather we were having after previous years
of poor weather, the stand was busy a good deal of the time and some new
members were signed up with one renewing his after rejoining last year. Good to
have so many members entered with many old faces coming back to meet up again
and good to be able to talk to people about our bikes offering help &
advice when possible. This is also a social event for us and proved to be good
fun once again, with John R, Justin & Steve looking after the bikes again
over the weekend. Sunday night was soon hear and the stand was soon completely
down, I think there was more people there helping than bikes on display at
times. Too many to thank for the organizing and helping with the weekend so
thankyou to you all once again. Justin though needs a special mention for his
enthusiasm to offer help when needed without being asked and when I needed help
at times, he loves his ride out with us on his bicycle and how he keeps up and
eats so much I will never know.
Well done.

DEVON SECTION BUZZING TO BICKLEIGH 6th JUNE
2010
|
My first club ride of the year not on
my bike but in the front passenger seat of the camper and back up trailer, Des
at the helm, Irene & Theresa in the comfy seats to the rear. No problem
with the bike apart from not being able to ride it with two crutches, with
breaking my leg on April fools day it was just not going to be. Thankyou to
Des, Irene & everyone else for not letting me do anything "could get use to
it though" also the currant bun for looking down on us for the day.
The day started off with some risk assessment in my drive and
thinking some riders may not wish to fall the four foot to the path below. John
Rowe arrived with his VeloSolex after a disappointing time trying to sort out
his Moto Guzzi Trotter with Steve & son-in-law Peter with both Steve's
Quicklys. Mike coming from Dorset with his Honda and David Benn coming from
Salisbury with his Norman which was a fair way to come to meet up with us and
of coarse James on his Mobylette. John & Margaret were unable to come early
and would meet us at Bickleigh for the ride home. The ride started with the
obligatory photo call with me trying to take photos on me crutches on the
opposite side of the roads not realizing the batteries had fallen out in the
drive beforehand.
James took the lead with no idea where he was going apart from
some pointing of fingers from the camper to the general direction of the route.
Things went well for some miles with us at the rear and hoping James was going
the right way and he did for a while, good job David was able to go and catch
him going the wrong way again (seems to becoming one of his habits). Sadly John
Rowe had problems with the Velosolex and was recovered to the trailer, joining
Irene & Theresa in the rear of the camper. At Bickleigh it was good to
catch up with Matthew at the Devon Railway Centre where we used to display a
load of our bikes; he also mentioned we were welcome anytime in the future.
After a meal at the Fisherman's Cot, with some enjoying their packed lunch and
the ladies shopping at Bickleigh Mill James took the lead Home. John &
Margaret had caught up with us when we arrived there and took up the rear, we
new James would be alright as when he goes wandering it's always in the
direction of home. I think everything must have gone well on the way home as we
only caught up with everyone near the end of the ride. Most were able to stay
for some time in the garden with many a bike story told, thankyou to Margaret
& Theresa for sorting out the refreshments and food.

July 11th 2010 East Coast Pedalers Display and Road Run
at Ufford Bygones Rally
|
A
blistering hot day at Ufford for our return to this event after a two year gap.
Brian Barley had organised everything at very short notice after we were let
down by the organisers of our original event on this date.
The majority of the East Coast Pedalers rode
in to the event on their machines, and their machines were added to the few
that were either vanned or trailered to the venue. Tony Chapman had brought his
superb Yamaha SS50 - the forerunner to the FS1-E - all the way up from Essex
for us to oogle at, he must have been impressed by the East Coast Pedaler set
up as he soon filled in his membership form and handed over his money to join
the many other like minded eccentrics that make up the NACC Ltd..
As there was so much to see and do at the
Rally, an executive decision was made to forego the planned road run - it was
too hot anyway ! We were going to see if we could get Dave's Berini running,
but despite the fact that the new Gazebo is far bigger than our previous one,
the desire to get out from under the sun meant it was constantly full of bodies
so we couldn't get a bike under there !
There was a Mobylette for sale on one of the
stalls, but at £300 it was still there at the end of the day, Guy got the
bargain of the day though - a Propane Gas Blowtorch complete with full gas
bottle for £5 !!
Once again everyone had a great time, our
next event will be Terry's Summer Evening Run on July 21st, then we have a
couple of weks break before we tackle our "Side to Side" run from Ness Point to
St.David's Head. |

East Coast Pedalers Waldingfield Report June 27th
2010
|
The hottest day of the year saw us gather at Great Waldingfield
Village Hall for the first "Waldingfield Wander" road run.
Geoff Daw, Alan & Maureen Bloys were there to welcome us
with Tea, Coffee and home made refreshments, and despite the blistering hot
weather, a minor football match going on somewhere in South Africa, a big local
motorcycle show just down the road and a host of other things going on we still
managed to get ten NACC members to brave the heat and take part in the superb
run that our Sudbury hosts had organised.
Some members had ridden their machines to the starting point
including John Gates on his NSU Quickly and Brian Denver on his Honda 125 (
Puch Maxi waiting for parts ), who had rode in from Clacton, Trevor Seymour had
ridden his Honda C70 in from Lavenham, Geoff had only a few hundred yards to
ride, whilst the rest of us brought our machines in vans or on trailers.
Geoff led us out on the run with Alan at the rear with Maureen
and Daphne in the recovery vehicle there to pick up the casualities if
required. A lovely ride through some very scenic roads followed although we did
have a few hills to contend with ... there were plenty of nice views to enjoy
and all too soon we were at the scheduled Lunch stop at Lamarsh lion, a tasty
Lunch was enjoyed and we then made our way back to the village hall for yet
more homemade cakes and very welcoming refreshing Elderflower cordial drinks.
A great day and we thank Geoff, Alan and Mauren for all their
hard work in getting this event established.
Riders were: Val Dearsley -
Yamaha QT50, Debbie Doy - Yamaha FS1-E, John Gates - NSU Quickly, Brian Denver

East Coast Pedalers East Coast Pedalers
Breck Farm Report June 5th / 6th 2010
|
The second Breck Farm Camping Weekend held
at Breck Farm Camp Site was very well attended and we had several members who
travelled a long way to see what us East Coast Pedalers get up to.
The drama started on Friday night when we had a phone call to
say that John Dainty who had come down from Durham had broken the drivebelt on
his Ariel 3 and could we find a replacement ? A few phone calls and we had one
organised for delivery the following day - mind you as events turned out some
of us wished that we hadn't been able to find one !
When the locals arrived on
Saturday morning there were already many people there with their machines on
display. Including our long distance travellers John, Harvey and Gill Spencer,
Chris Saunders & Luke Booth who had camped Friday night along with Norfolk
members Dave Arnott and Barrie and Janet Brasted. Our routemaster Keith Ashby
arrived mid afternoon, unfortunately his normally reliable New Hudson had
expired a few days earlier so he had booked the "Track Spare" Novio for the
weekend, after a few minutes tution on the intricities of Japanese machinery he
felt confident enough to lead us out on the Saturday "Slowped " run, as
expected some weird and wonderful machines lined up for the off including:
Luke's Bernadi Buzz,
Dave Watson's Cyclemate ( a Cyclemaster engine in a Norman
frame), Dave Arnott's Moby AV32, Mark Gibb on the Breck Farm Honda Express
which was donated to us last year, John on the Ariel 3 with replacement belt
fitted, and myself on "Le Mobchop" along with some more conventional machines
such as Ray Gibb's Motobecane, Chris's James Autocycle, Barries Puch X50,
Harvey' Raleigh RM8 Runabout, Gill's PC50.
Keith led us out and we
succesfully crossed the busy road just outside the campsite, and then the
problems began ! Dave's Cyclemate played up and he disappeared down a downhill
sideroad in an effort to get it started and was never seen again !
Next
John's Ariel 3 stopped and took some persuading to get running again so a few
of us got left behind, undaunted after a few minutes changing plugs and
cleaning carburettor jets we got underway hoping to catch up the leading pack
before the scheduled first stop at a very nice moated castle, we found our way
there ok and had a good look around and were just about to leave when Keith and
the others drew in ! apparently we had taken a shorter route hence our early
arrival !
Eventually we again left as one group - minus Dave Watson of
course - but again the Ariel 3 played up and I was summoned to get on it and
make it go, John jumped onto the Mobchop and after much pedalling I persuaded
the Ariel to get going,
Mark also had problems with
the Express which was smoking a lot but going nowhere fast, a large screwdriver
was poked up its rear orifice and suddenly the Japanese horsepower was
unleashed, Barrie had a few problems with the Puch but eventually that joined
in the fun too, at the first opportunity I jumped off the Ariel 3 and John
reluctantly took over the controls, but it played up throughout the run and I
spent most of the run hanging the rear end of the tempermental 3 wheeler out on
every corner as it only seemed to want to run flat out despite Dave's best
efforts at keeping the jets clear, anyway John enjoyed himself riding the
Mobchop despite it's lack of rear suspension.
Eventually we made it back
to the campsite to be greeted by Dave Watson who had returned there to get on
his other machine - a New Hudson Autocycle - but that too played up so
eventually he just gave up.... 15 miles in 3 hours ..... must be a record !!!
Quote of the weekend from Mark Gibb "That was how NACC runs
used to be " We just looked at him and walked off
!!!
Dave Arnott had organised a superb campfire and barbecue and
thankfully we were able to enjoy better weather this year and a good time was
had by everyone and we all laughed at what had happened on the first slowped
run and hoped that with a bit more planning we can do it again next year.
A large group of Harley riders pitched up next to us and we
were expecting scenes reminiscent of the 60s Mods and Rockers riots on Brighton
Beach in the 70s and half expected our bikes to end up on their campfire, but
they were very friendly and mosy of them were asleep in their tents by 10.00pm
!!!!
Sunday dawned bright and Sunny and other members started to
arrive, Brian Hastings with his lovely Bown Autocycle was an early arrival,
closely followed by Barry and Val on their Honda Camino and Yamaha QT50, day
member Gary Garett joined us on a Suzuki B100P. A plan was formed to ensure
that we wouldn't get split up and once again Keith led us out, some machine
swapping had been arranged as this was going to be a 30mile run, John wisely
decided against using the Ariel 3 and blagged another outing on the Mobchop,
Dave Watson rode Mark's Honda PC50, Dave Arnott was on his more modern
Mobylette, Luke was on a Bantam engined BSA Beadle (A BSA Bagel ?), Mark was on
a Mobylette, Ray on his NSU Quickly, whilst I had already arranged to use
Roly's (Who couldn't make the event) PC50.
Keith had devised a superb
route taking in Blickling Hall ( we visited both the front and rear entrances)
and other places of interest,
Lunch was taken at
Aldborough and then purely by chance we were invited to view a private
collection of machines owned by the inventor of the Sidewinder leaning sidecar,
we only encountered a brief shower and thankfully there were no machine
problems, we did lose Barrie and Gary after they decided to head back early but
we all returned safely back to the campsite.
All in all a superb weekend,
our visitors all enjoyed the weekend and we hope to se them at future events.
Our thanks to Dave and Keith for organising everything for us
all, and to everyone that turned up to support the event. Spare a thought for
Mick "Soapy" Sudds though; he turned up at the campsite ten minutes after we
had set off, spent a couple hours looking for us on the coastal roads (which we
used last year ) and then gave up and rode hope and got drenched in the pouring
rain !!!!! |

The 2010 Coast To Coast Run Absolutely biting wind and rain. Seventy riders
signed, 61 bikes.on the road. Large number of Cyclemasters and rather a lot of
PC50s. Group of Fizzys, autocycles, two blokes from France, in fact lots and
lots of bikes of every conceivable type travelling at various speeds strung out
over many miles. Grumpy sighted at various points with his bike in bits - who
would have thought you could hear a mad Yorkshireman by the side of the road
swearing from the inside of a Honda Civic going past at 60 mph with the windows
closed and the radio on! By the first stop the the wind had dropped and the sun
was nearly visible - looks to be the biggest C to C yet - what a
joy. |
