| MEMBER'S AND THEIR MACHINES part
2 - 'The Caption Competition' |
NACC members spend many hours
executing careful and meticulous work on their machines striving to produce
what they believe and hope will be a "True Classic".
This section of the site is dedicated to them and their tireless struggle for
perfection.
We all know that wherever two or
more enthusiasts gather there will likely be disagreement as to what
constitutes the 'ultimate classic steed' - that's how it's always been and
opinions will always vary, "beauty being in the eye of the
beholder." |
 fig
1. Fitting the small end bush. |
For example, some members may take
the view, unkindly whilst understandably, that Nick Devonport looks a complete
Wally in his recently acquired 'Amphibious Death Trap' or that a Honda Moped
needs a sidecar like a 'fish needs a bicycle' but each to his own and remember
the old adage, "Judge not lest ye be judged!"
The idea therefore of this section is to allow members to send in
pictures of their machines - preferably with them riding them:
a) to illustrate that they do actually 'go'
b) to prove they haven't just nicked a picture
off the Internet.
We
would then like all club members to look sympathetically at these masterpieces
and suggest a caption for the picture which they think best encapsulates it.
There might very well be a prize for the best entries received -
but don't bank on it.
PLEASE NOTE: this feature is not
to be used as an opportunity to 'Take the Michael' or to settle a few old
scores - no really.
Please submit your caption(s), giving your name and the number of
the picture(s), or a photograph of your machine if you wish it to be considered
for inclusion, via email to: info@thebuzzingclub.co.uk
For example, if in your opinion you think an appropriate caption
for the picture of Dave Casper on his Honda is, and this is of course just a
light hearted example, "High speed bearded maniac on oriental egg-whisk
confounds Dutch contingent by not breaking down every two miles" then stick
that and "Picture 5" on an email and send it in.
You could win a major cash prize - you
could also win next years T.T. on a Fantic chopper which, to be perfectly
honest is quite a lot more likely.
So without further delay here are
the current pictures for your consideration:

This is a new idea. Following
the massive response to the caption competition (sarcasm) - we are moving into
video in the vain hope it will get some sort of response. To enter, study the video carefully and then complete
the sentence: "I think Nick Devonport is
daft enough to buy one of these because ..................
It isn't hard and if you
win you will not be under any obligation whatsoever to have a ride in
it. |

Billy Doy (the blue stripey
thing) and his P50. (the red rusty thing). This was at some stage a Honda moped, and no doubt will be
again. Caption wise there is plenty to go
at . My own preference would be for something set to the tune of: 'The
Londonderry Air' (Danny Boy) along the lines of :
"Oh Billy Doy, your bike needs overhauling"
but what do I know? |

 Welcome to the first
International Entry!
It's a shot by
Bryan Hollinshead from France, writer of the 'Les Amis' column in Buzzing.
|
| Correction: |
| I am in receipt of an
irate email from Bryan who informs me that he did not submit this picture
and, in his opinion, this is a disgraceful
and tasteless hoax just to poke fun at French people. |

Shot from the 2005 Coast to
Coast run . Unfortunately, despite our
best endeavours we are unable to put a name to the pilot of this Raleigh
Wisp. If anyone can help here with a name,
or even a brief explanation of why he/she has an inflatable life jacket on the
carrier. Best suggestion to date is that the brakes on the Raleigh Wisp are not
great and the mystery rider thought they may overshoot the finish
line. |

A great shot of the Club
Chairman, Dave Casper, travelling at considerable speed on his 50cc Honda
Dream.
This excellent picture was
taken at the Rando Cyclo`s Sars Poterie Event in France. (see Club Calendar for

Nick Devonport pictured here
on/in a recent acquisition - a machine which is as good on water as it is on
land (and probably in the air as well) i.e. not very. Nick spends a lot of his time in France and is obviously hoping to
save the cost of the Chunnel by driving across.
In the short time Nick has
had the machine he has already been awarded, and is proudly displaying, his
first blue 'kill' sticker which he earned by failing to negotiate a right hand
bend and mowing down an elderly, but suprisingly agile, gentleman with a
walking frame as he was coming out of the betting shop. |

Carl Squirrell`s latest
project. Because we have only got a few photos so far the judges have 'bent the
rules' and allowed this unmounted entry - it must 'go' as he is the club's
Honda Marque Enthusiast. It is
obviously a Honda PC50 with a sidecar, possibly unwisely, bolted on to it.
Unfortunately it is not easy to see from the picture if the machine is finished
and it is possible that some form of gun turret remains to be
installed. |

It is not our intention to
attempt any witty commentary on this particular nonsense for fear of upsetting
a whole host of people.
It is
sufficient to say that this member must have gone to extreme lengths to locate
and purchase a machine more insane than his last entry and this dedication and
application is to be applauded as it's what put the 'Great' in Great Britain
and made it the envy of the Civilised World. |
